Day 1: Quito Airport - Quito

Reception at the airport and transport with an english-speaking driver-guide to your hotel. Free time for the rest of the day.

Day 2: Quito - Mitad del Mundo - Quito

Quito, Ecuador's capital, is a real treasure between the volcanoes of Pichincha, Cayambe and Antisana. At an elevation of 2830 meters, it is the second highest capital in the world.. It was the first city classified by the UNESCO in 1978 and its historic centre is the biggest and best maintained in Latino America. To get a good idea of the city, we will firstly go to the Panecillo, a small hill over the city with a statue of the Quito'Virgen at the top, for a superb view. You will then have a complete visit of Quito's colonial centre: the cathedral, the church of the Compañia de Jesus, the church of San Francisco and its garden and as many baroque art pieces.
You will visit the site of the "Mitad del Mundo" where you can put one foot in the Southern hemisphere and the other in the Northern hemisphere! The different buildings corresponds to different aspects of Ecuador, with the French pavilion being dedicated to the Condamine expedition which determinated the site of this imaginary line in 1736.
The Inti Nan etnographic museum, near the site of the Mitad del mundo, shows the country's different ethnies with their traditions and clothing. You will have the chance to realise various experiences such as water flowing and eggs balancing, which results are different on the equatorial line than in other places.

Day 3: Quito - Cochasqui - Cuicocha Lake - Otavalo

Trip to Otavalo, which craftworks made it worldly known.

Visit of the Cochasqui pyramids, classified as World Heritage and considered as the most important archeological site North of the Equatorial Andes. The site is composed of 15 pyramids and 20 funeral mounds built by the Quitus Cara Indians in the IXth century. There are different interpretations concerning the function of the pyramids: ceremony places, houses for important people or even astronomical observatories. The site still keeps many mysteries... which we will try to learn more about.
Visit of the Cuicocha lake in the ecologic reserve of "Cotacahi - Cayapas" , one of the most beautiful in Ecuador with a shiny blue water.
At the centre of a former crater at 3064 meters, the nature lovers will enjoy a very various vegetation (orchids, "elephants ears"...) with more than 400 species identified there.
Half an hour boat tour on the lake. You will see two vegetation covered island at the centre of this former crater, which had been formed by successive volcanic eruptions. You will learn more about the legends around them.

You will spend the night at Hacienda Cusin, close to San Pablo lake, in Otavalo's region. This place keeps the atmosphere and the authenticity of those old times, with a warm and familiar welcoming.

Day 4: Otavalo - San Antonio de Ibarra - Peguche - Otavalo

Visit in the morning the famous Otavalo's Indian market, the most important in the Ecuador's Andes, where you can meet the Otavaleños Indians with their espadrilles, their brown felt hat and blue ponchos. They are the wealthiest indians in Ecuador and excellent sellers.
The main market is on Saturdays with the cattle market just outside town, but others markets are hold on the Los Ponchos square every days.
Visit of San Antonio de Ibarra, a town known for wood crafting where you may visit a sculptor in his workshop.
You will visit the village of Peguche, where you will discover the Andean music instrument fabrication workshops. You may attend to a local music session and the weaving process, an old art well established in the area.

You will spend the night at Hacienda Cusin, close to San Pablo lake, in Otavalo's region. This place keeps the atmosphere and the authenticity of those old times, with a warm and familiar welcoming.

Day 5: Otavalo - Misahualli

Departure from Otavalo to go to Oriente. You can enjoy on the way various types of landscapes from a saddle at 4000 meters to the Amazonian basin at an elevation of approximately 900 meters. You will have many opportunities to take photos on the road, over the green valleys and the waterfalls.
Arrival to Misahualli and to the lodge.
A short walk in the jungle will lead you up to this magnificent waterfall which falls in a big natural swimming pool, the place dreams for a cooling dive one day of big heat.

Along the way you can appreciate the jungle and its beauties, along the path which takes you exactly towards one of these marvels. Our native guide will offer you a multitude of information while he spots, tree-dwelling frogs, insects, healing plants...

After this walk and to have cooled in the waterfall, we shall take you until Misahualli to have lunch in the village, and take advantage of it to observe the monkeys playing on the square.
You will spend an amazonian night at Hamadryade Lodge. Where you will have different options (not included in the offer): explore Misahualli's port which is the door of entrance to the amazonic jungle, walk on the lodge' pathes, go to the Latas waterfalls, spend some relaxation time at the swimming pool or ask for a massage in your cabin.

Day 6: Misahualli

Departure since Misahualli in a power-driven dugout for the Community Quichua de Shiripuno. Meeting with the Women of the Association Amukishmi who present their project of community tourism to value their culture and improve the living conditions. Presentation of the quichuas traditions with dances, typical musics, small business crafts, manufacturing of the traditional drink, the chicha of manioc, and long walks in the plantations of banana tree, cocoa and manioc to know the agricultural work with the harvest of products … A typical lunch in the Community (a fish cooked in a leaf of palm tree cooks on the wood fire, served with manioc, papaya and an infusion of healing plants. In the afternoon, manufacturing and tasting of chocolate, workshop of small business crafts.

You will spend an amazonian night at Hamadryade Lodge. Day 7: Misahualli - Puyo - Banos

On the way to Banos you will follow the "Ruta de Cascadas" along the deep gorges of the Rio Pastaza and observe the evolution of the ecosystem from 950 to 1800 meters of elevation with spectacular views over the upper Amazon basin and a dozen of waterfalls.

You will spend the night at Luna Runtun hotel in Banos. Your room will give you a sight on the Llanganates national park or on the Tungurahua volcanoe.

Day 8: Banos

Free time in Banos to wander around this nice small town. The Basilica of "Nuestra Señora de Agua Santa" is worth the visit, as well as a swim in the town's baths. Different sport activities are also available: mountain biking, rafting, canyoneering...

You will spend the night at Luna Runtun hotel in Banos. Your room will give you a sight on the Llanganates national park or on the Tungurahua volcanoe.

Day 9: Banos - Cotopaxi Park - Lasso

The road to the Cotopaxi park follows a fertil and green valley where you can observe recent lavas of the Tungurahua seen from the road. A journey up the Volcanoes Avenue to park entrance of an extimation of 3 hours.
Visit of the Cotopaxi park with Ecuador's second highest summit at 5897 meters. It is also the highest active volcano in the world although it only shows a few fumaroles from its ice covered crater. Walk around the Limpiapungo laggon with stunning view on the Cotopaxi. After driving up to the carpark at 4600 meters you may continue (optionnal, you can stay at the parking level if you consider not being in the proper cphysical conditions to climb) by foot to the José Rivas hut 200 meters higher. The most motivated can also go and reach the snowline.

Day 10: Cotopaxi Park - Quito - Puembo


Road to Quito.
Discover the "Man Chapel" from the Eacuador's artist Oswaldo Guayasamín. This painting of the chapel was designed and partly realised by Guayasamín to honnor Mankind. Several of his art pieces are exhibited there.

You will spend the night at Hosteria Rincon de Puembo in Puembo closed to the Quito airport.

Day 11: Quito Airport - Baltra - Santa Cruz

Domestic flight Quito - Baltra.
BALTRA – SANTA CRUZ (Seeking giant tortoises)

You will land in Baltra Island and cross the narrow Itabaca Channel to Santa Cruz accompanied by a bilingual naturalist guide who will take you to a farm in the highlands for a tasty lunch. You will then do a complete tour of the area, exploring various vegetation zones and microclimates, walking around pit craters, through lava tunnels and getting acquainted with endemic Scalesia and Guayabillo forests. At the Tortoise Reserve, you will observe the emblematic giant tortoises in their natural habitat and the abundant bird life of the highlands. Your tour will end at Galapagos Safari Camp where you can enjoy a sunset cocktail followed by dinner.

Day 12: Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ (Exploring the East)

In the morning you will be driven to the eastern part of the island. At 490mts. above sea level, Cerro Mesa offers dramatic views, has the largest crater on Santa Cruz and numerous endemic plants as well as up to 7 subspecies of finches and the Vermillion Flycatcher. After lunch you will visit Garrapatero, a pristine beach where the contrast of mangroves, black lava, white sand and turquoise water, in addition to the buzzing coastal bird life and the small pink flamingo lagoon is sensational.

Day 15: Santa Cruz - Baltra - Guayaquil Airport
