Day 2: Rio De Janeiro - Corcovado - Santa Teresa - Sugarloaf Mountain - Santa Teresa

At 09:00am start a city tour with your english speaking guide, firstly going up to the Corcovado (el. 700 m.a.s.l.), worldly known symbol of Rio. Once up there, take the time to appreciate the unique and amazing panoramic view of the "cidade maravilhosa" (wonderful city).

Then way back down via Santa Teresa, which used to be one of the wealthiest residential neighborhoods of Rio, when the town was the capital of Brazil and all the principal institutions were located there. Surrounded by the agglomeration, the neighborhood has lost its former character, and the wealth of the area has moved to the Southwest of Rio, to Barra da Tijuca. Santa Teresa now shelters a diverse population in the bohemian quarter of the modern Rio. Walk through this area to get a taste of its quaint and old atmosphere. During the trip to Lapa, visit the colored stairs or "Escadaria do Convento da Santa Teresa", decorated by Jorge Selarón.

Later, take the cable cart to the summit of the Sugarloaf (el. 400 m.a.s.l.), another symbol of Rio which marks the entrance of the Guanabara Bay. Return to the hotel at 05:00pm.

Option: Helicopter flight of a few minutes from the mirador of Sugar Loaf (check with us).
Night at the Santa Teresa hotel (breakfast included). Superior room.
Included : english speaking guide, private transport, entrance fees, room & breakfast

Day 3: Rio De Janeiro - Historical Center - Favelas - Santa Teresa

At 09:00am you will meet your french-speaking guide for a private visit of Rio’s city center, from a colossal avenue framed by imposing glass buildings to quaint, small streets and their little affordable shops.

Many styles, one spirit, is the best definition to describe the architectural cocktail of the center, where past and modernism coexist in harmony. Among the possible visits (to be coordinated with the guide depending on opening times, your centers of interest, or eventual manifestations organized that day): Imperial Municipal (replicate of the Opera Garnier in France), foundation Banco do Brasil, casa da França (old custom house), national History museum, largo da Carioca, convento Santo Antônio, metropolitan cathedral, plaza Tiradentes...

In the afternoon, a specialized guide will take you on an "off-the-beaten-track" visit: the favelas. This visit of a few hours in a different reality of Rio, will give you a more real and complete view of the life in Carioca than the images of violence poverty which usually shown by the medias lacking of originality.

At the heart of these popular and "lawless" suburbs (the favelas are originally illegal land occupations), Brazilians organize themselves and live in a dignified and solitary manner.

Return to the hotel at 05:00pm.

Note: For the visit of the center, avoid Sundays and bank holidays.
Night at the Santa Teresa hotel (breakfast included). Superior room.
Included : english speaking guide, private transport, room & breakfast

Day 4: Rio De Janeiro - Paraty

Departure from the hotel for a journey to Paraty with your local driver in private car with air conditioning. 4 ½-hour drive on a sealed road along the Green Coast, a vegetation corridor between ocean and mountains.
Your English-speaking guide will pick you up at 02:00pm at the hotel for a guided visit of the historical centre of the village. Nestled between ocean and the foothills of the Serra do Mar, Paraty, registered as a word heritage site with UNESCO, shelters one of the most beautiful colonial heritage of Brazil. Along narrow, paved streets, you will discover this outstanding heritage, witness to the wealth of the 17th and 18th century: sublime mansions, four superb baroque churches, one being the church of Santa Rita de Cassia hosting today a museum of sacred art.
Paraty, a very animated town night and day, has many beaches nearby.
Night at the pousada Casa Turquesa (breakfast included).
Included : private transport, english speaking guide, entrance fees, room & breakfast

Day 5: Paraty - Saco Do Mamangua

At 09:00am, the captain will drive you to the pier to board a private craft, a fishing boat adapted for the tour (benches and cushions, cooler…). Day in the Bay of Paraty, traveling from an island to another and a beach to another. There will be several stops on different sites for swimming or snorkeling among hundreds of fishes (mask and snorkel provided): ilha Comprida, saco da Velha, praia Vermelha...

In the afternoon, you will enter in the saco do Mamangua, and disembark shortly after at the "refugio do Mamangua", where Paulo, biologist-writer, and Cristina, his wife will welcome you. Settled here for the last ten years, they are running a study on the equilibrium between a fragile ecosystem and its interdependency with human activity (fishing, oyster-farming, agriculture, tourism). If you are lucky, they will be available during your stay to share with you their real passion for the area. They will host you in their bungalows, offering basic comfort (no electricity, but hot shower) and a guaranteed peacefulness.
